Today I am writing about electric water heater wiring. I am writing about this post because in winter sessions we use hot and cool water in our washroom and for other things. For heating water, we use geysers and in which we use electric heating elements which heat the water. We use different types of electric heater elements regarding voltage and regarding element type. We use a water heater thermostat for controlling the water temperature. These thermostats we used for controlling the water heater element.
In this post, I am gonna share some diagrams which clarify your concept about the wiring of a water heater geyser.
Electric Water Heater Wiring With Diagrams Explanation
In this post, I am going to show some diagrams from which you can learn how to wire the water heater or you will be able to do the connection of the water heater thermostat and elements. Here I a shown an electric water heater geyser, in which two heater elements install upper and lower. And also shows two thermostat switches but the upper thermostat switch is different from the lower element thermostat.
Both elements are never on at the same time and when the upper element is on working and when this element is complete hotness it’s the range which is set up in the thermostat. And when the upper element work is done the upper thermostat switch off the upper element and starts supplying to the lower thermostat and through the lower thermostat the current will flow to the lower element. This is called non-simultaneous operation. Here I design the image diagram in which I have shown the incoming supply neutral and phase which is a connected thermostat and from the upper thermostat, the connection goes to the lower thermostat and water heater element.
Double Element Water Heater Wiring Diagram
Here I want to share with you the electric water heater wiring symbol diagram, and water heater wiring diagram which will help you in understanding. In the below diagram, the upper element is ON and the Lower heater element is OFF.
When the upper water heater element has done its work, the upper thermostat switches the neutral wire to the upper thermostat and provides the neutral wire to the lower thermostat. As I have shown in the below electric water heater wiring diagram.
In the above diagram, I show that the upper water heater element is switched OFF and the lower heater element is switched ON. Note that this element is 220 volts rating and you can also 440 volts heater elements but you need to provide the line supply, my mean lines or two hot wires supply 440 volts.
Single Element Water Heater Diagrams
Now Here I design another diagram for a single heater element water geyser, in which I have shown only one element of wiring. One thing, the below water heater thermostat is different from the double-element thermostat.
In an electric water heater, we use a type of element which have fixed with a thermostat switch. These elements mostly use in my country Pakistan. And these are instilled in the bottom of the water geyser. We called this type of water geyser a simple type of geyser. In this type of geyser, one heater element is instilled with a thermostat. The thermostat switch has two connection points just lick a bulb socket or holder. You need to connect the power supply neutral and phase to thermostat terminals. You can regulate the temperate from the thermostat switch, I showed the diagram of this type of water heater element.
How to Control Water Heater?
The best option is to control the water heater from the circuit breaker box, so if you did not want to control the water heater from the main distribution board (DB Box) then install a double pole MCB circuit breaker with a water heater geyser. So I suggest reading the below posts.
