Today you will learn about "how to control a single phase submersible pump motor" or how to control single phase motor from two points. In this type of controlling we used the two magnetic contactor and two double pole mcb circuit breakers (Miniature Circuit Breakers), two normal open push button switches and 2 normal open push button switches.

How to control single phase motor from two places


The motor will control from two places, in which the first place supply will come from the Main kWh Energy meter and for 2nd place the supply comes from kWh check meter or 2nd energy meter.
Here I explain the complete controlling and wiring diagram step by step. In this type of connection a single phase motor used under two householders in which one owner of houses and the 2nd are people who take the 2nd house on rent.

So the motor can be on/off from both places. For that we can do connection as I shown in the below diagram.

In the above how to control single phase motor from two points diagram the first energy meter supply goes to first MCB circuit breaker and kWh check meter. From the kWh check meter the supply goes to the 2nd double pole MCB circuit breaker.

From the first double pole mcb circuit breaker the supply goes to the first contactor and to contactor push button switches or on/off the motor. But here we do an interlock system. In which if the motor start from first contactor then no one can start it from the second place (contactor) in same time. And when the motor switch off from first place then the 2nd person can on/off the motor from second places. But if motor start from the second place then no one can on/off the motor from the first place.

The same connection done with same contactor, the supply comes from the double pole mcb circuit breaker and connect to the contactor. And from there the supply goes to the on/off motor push button swathes. (The start button shown with green color and red button shown as motor OFF button).

The motor output supply is take from the output terminals of contactor and from there the supply goes to the motor as shown in the above diagram. The both output supply are connect together in which the output neutral wire from the first contactor is connected with 2nd contactor output neutral wire and then neutral wire goes to the motor. For low load three phase motor we use direct online starter for controlling. But how a direct online works and how to wire a direct online starter for a 3 phase motor. In this post you will learn DOL starter with simple direct online starter animation. The diagram is complete animated and simple to understand. And this not a single animation, we divide it in parts. In first part i shown that the motor is OFF, and 2nd part i shown that motor is ON and in last the motor is OFF. The all process is shown with simple animation diagrams.


Direct Online Starter Animation Diagrams - DOL Stater Animation


Before we talk about the diagram first we talk about the magnetic contactor, thermal over current protection relay, normally close push button switch, normally open push button switch. In the diagram the contactor which is used is 380 to 440 ACV. A thermal overload relay is used for protection during the over current flow to motor. (In thermal overload relay the NC and NO contacts shown) A red normally close push button switch shown and normally open push button shown.

In the direct online starter animation diagram a 3 phase 440 volts supply is shown which is connect to the magnetic contactor main contacts. From the blue wire  a wire goes to the thermal overload relay normally close contacts and from there the wire goes to the contactor coil A1 terminal.


From the red line wire a wire goes to the normally close push button switch. From the NC push button switch the wire goes to normally open push button input terminals and from same place a wire goes to the normally open auxiliary contacts of contactor. This wire will called hold wire.

From the NO switch output terminals a wire goes to other side of NO auxiliary contacts of contactor and from same point the wire goes the contactor coil A2 terminal. This wire will called touch wire in simple words.


Here is the first look of 3 phase motor direct online starter wiring animation diagram in which the motor is not start.

In the above animation diagram. I show that motor is not start and NO push button switch in normal state. Now in next step the normally open push button switch is ON and the motor is also ON.
As you know that we use normally open push button switch only for touch current or starting time current.

In the above 3 phase motor controlling diagram the normally open switch is in close state, in the next diagram the normally open switch is open state but motor is start because the other line wire goes to contactor in hold wire through the contactor normally open contacts (because now contactor normally open auxiliary contacts is close).

Now if we want to switch off the motor, then we need to push normally close push button switch and when we push the normally close push button switch. The supply which goes to contactor through the hold wire (blue wire from normally open switch) with cut and magnetic contactor will be De energizing. As I shown in the below direct online starter animation diagram.

Now after pushing the red push button switch (NC switch) the circuit will turn normal state as I shown in first diagram.

In three phase power system, we wire and install the voltmeter to measure the AC voltage, in this post you will learn about the 3 phase voltmeter connection diagram for a digital voltmeter. In his post I am going to write about the three phase digital voltmeter wiring for single phase and 3 phase, but I only share the diagram about the 3 phase digital panel voltmeter, in which I use it for line to line voltage measurement.

3 Phase Voltmeter Connection Diagram For Line To Line Voltage Testing (440V)


In a 3 phase analog voltage meter we have 2 terminals or contacts to provide the supply. We can connect our single phase (neutral and Phase) to these connects or connection point to measure the voltage between neutral and phase. But as you know that meter is design for three phase system (0 to 500 volts) so always use it for measurement voltage between line to line (phase to phase).

So we connect two lines (i.e. L1 and L2) to analog voltage meter to measure the voltage between Line 1 to Line 2. But in digital we have some different connection and we also required the neutral or we can said if we are going to install a digital voltmeter to measure voltage between line to line then we also required the neutral to operate digital volt meter.

In digital voltmeter we have two types of input contacts, one for to operate digital V meter or to operate the display of meter. The 2nd input for voltage to measure. Here I had shown a diagram in which I wire the voltmeter for measuring voltage between L1 and L2.

In above digital 3 phase voltmeter connection diagram. I shown the neutral and phase supply goes to 6 and 8 terminals for voltage meter which is for operating the display. As the L1 is connected to the 6 number terminal and this is also line than a wire connection will goes from this point to 2 number terminal.



The 1 and 2 number points are for input AC supply to measure. So we connect the L1 to the 2 number and the L2 wire to 1 terminal.

The above connection for digital voltage meter is for line to line voltage testing. However if you want to wire it for single phase (Neutral to Phase) voltage testing then provide also the single phase 220 supply to the 1 and 2 terminals.

Note the connection diagram can be different for different model of voltmeters. It's depends on company who manufacture the voltmeters. So this is just an example of wring connection. It's incoming supply for display and terminals number can be different in different model of voltmeter. So the better option is that to read the provide guide or diagram of voltmeter and which is provided on side or back side of voltmeter. Here is the above voltmeter example.....

In the above image the voltmeter connection method shown. In which High and Low for input AC supply voltage testing. Note this meter can test voltage from 0 to 500v. In the above diagram AC power terminals are 6 , 7, 8 but in meter only 6 and 8 number contacts available which for 220 volts. However if the 110 V option available and your supply is 110v the connect you supply to 0v and 110v contacts.

(Note every voltmeter have their own diagram and their own connection. So this is not important that the connection name and number are same. Or the connection method is same. So always read the digital meter contacts diagram and then wire it)

Mostly in electrical technology students , a question are serve in his minds about the single phase motor that how to identify starting and running winding. Basically when we talk about the single phase motor wiring or installation connection. We always think about the start , run and common wire or terminals. In one phase motor connection we have three wire are coming from the motor winding which are start , run and common. As you know that we have two types of winding in a single phase motor which we known with name of starting and running winding. The running winding also called the main winding while the starting winding is better known with name of "auxiliary winding". The point where these moth winding are connected is called the common point which we know better with name of "common connection of a one phase motor" or "the common terminal of a single phase refrigerator compressor".

How to Identify starting and running winding in a single phase motor

If you open the single phase motor , you will find out that your motor have two types of winding in which one is made from thick wire gauge and one thin . the thick wire gauge winding is main winding and thin wire gauge winding is starting winding. But this Identification can be done when you open the motor but what you will do if don't want the motor and just want to find out starting and running winding from the main connection plate or connection point.
(Basically to identify starting and running winding is just to find out the start , run and common connection.)

In a single phase motor we have three wires which comes from the both stating and running winding. Which we known with the name of common, start and run connection. To find out the common , start and run wires or connection first read the connection plate diagram and notes to find out which one is common, which one is running and starting. In some one phase motor the the common wire come with black color wire, run as red and start as white color. But this is not important that the connection will come with same colors. Mostly  these color are change. So the better and easy option to to find out the run , start and common wire or connection to read the connection plate diagram or chart. And if you did not find any guide about the connection then follow the below step.


Use a Multi meter You can easily identify the common , starting and running connection of a single phase motor. In the single phase 3 wire motor we have a high resistance between the start and run connection or wire. And if you find out that two wires have a high number of resistance showing on multi meter or ohm meter in three wire then it's means that these two wire are start and run connection and the other one is common. However to complete understand , fallow the below step by step guide


  • First of all set your multimeter on ohm testing 
  • Then check resistance between wire to wire in 3 wires
  • If you find out that two wire have greater resistance between one another then it's mean that these are start and run and the 3rd one is common.
  • So you identify the common wire , so the next step to find out which one is start and run wire.
  • The method is easy, the resistance between common and staring will greater then the Resistance between common and run wire. So the greater resistance between common and other wire will identify that this is start , starting connection or terminal. So you find out that starting connection. So it's clear the other wire is run connection wire.

To identifying starting and running winding' i means that you are searching about the staring and running and common identification in a single phase motor. So if you are searching for this then the above method is for you. And if you want to identify the starting and running winding then the easy method to open the motor internally. And see which winding wire greater in size. For example is you find out two winding and one winding are made from 21 SWG and 2nd winding is made from 26 Then 21 SWG is greater in size which running winding or main winding and 26 SWG winding is staring or auxiliary winding. 

(Note That the above start, run and common identification method you can use for any single phase induction motor, like ceiling fan, single phase submersible water pump motor, for A/C outdoor coiling fan etc.)

The three phase changeover wiring connection and installation is too simple and easy connection as I shown in the below diagram. In the below diagram I shown the incoming 3 lines supply wires with read red, yellow and blue colors. The neutral I shown with black color but the neutral- is not used in the three phase manual transfer or changeover switch. The main supply is connected to the switch upper input supply terminals. And the generator supply connected to the bottom- input terminals or connection points of transfer switch as I shown in the below diagram. The output supply is goes to load from output connection points or terminals. I have shown load as three phase induction motor. One thing more if we move the switch handle upper side, the main supply will goes to the load. When we move the transfer switch handle to center-, the switch will on OFF mode. And when we required the generator emergency supply for load then we move the changeover handle to bottom- side.

Today I am writing about the refrigerator overload protector testing using multi meter. In this post I will complete guide you about how to test a refrigerator thermal overload protector using a multimeter. As you know that thermal overload protector is designed to protect the refrigerator compressor during over current flow. I also published a post about working principles of refrigerator compressor thermal overload protector. The overload protector is connected near with the starting relay of the compressor, and connects to the compressor common terminal. When the thermal overload protector heat up or make an open connection internally the compressor stop running. The working of thermal protector is that to stop the electric supply during the over current flow to compressor or when the compressor become heat up. Some time when ref compressor become heat up the thermal overload protector stop the electric supply to the compressor to protect the compressor winding from the burning. How To Test Refrigerator Overload Protector Using Multimeter


  • The refrigerator overload protector testing is very easy using a multi meter, to test your refrigerator thermal overload protector follow the below steps.
  • First of all off the refrigerator and plug out the refrigerator supply plug from the outlet, or switch off the double pole circuit breaker from which the refrigerator supply plug controlled.
  • The thermal overload protector is connected or install near with the starting (PTC relay) with compressor terminals. Just remove the relay from the compressor and then remove the compressor overload protector.
  • Remove the both wires from the thermal overload protector.
  • Then set you multi meter on connectivity test or diode testing. Connect one testing lead to one terminal of the thermal overload protector and other testing lead to the other terminal of compressor overload.
  • If you find that there are some connectivity then its means that the overload is alright and working properly. And you don't need to replace the overload.
  • And if you don't see any connectivity then waits 5 to 10 minutes and then tests the thermal overload protector again. And if still has no connectivity then its means that your refrigerator overload is internally open connection or cut. And you must change the overload protector with new one with same range.

Refrigerator Overload Protector Testing Using Multi-meter


Here I try to make you understood using simple refrigerator overload protector testing troubleshooting diagram. In the below diagram I shown an Analog multi meter which set on the connectivity test, ohm test (resistance testing). And I connect the one testing lead to one terminal of overload and other testing lead to other terminal of the overload. In diagram I shown that multi meter shown no reading or no connectivity which means that the overload is not working or internally open.

Refrigerator Overload Protector Testing


In the below 2nd fridge thermal overload protector testing troubleshooting diagram. I shown that millimeter shown the reading and shown connectivity between two points which means that overload is working properly and no need to change.

How To Test Refrigerator Overload Protector



In the above diagram I shown and clear that if the refrigerator thermal overload protector have connectivity between two points then its means that overload is working fine. But some time if an overload is not tripping or not make an open circuit during over current flow to the compressor then this overload is not a good overload. So the proper method to test your overload compressor starting time and running time current (ampere) and if the overload is not opening circuit during the over current flow then change the overload protector.


Now if the overload is internally open circuit then change and if it's have a connectivity between both terminals of overload then test other common places and problems of refrigerator not working. 3 Phase Submersible Pump Wiring Diagram Explanation Complete Guide


Before I explain the diagram. I want to write about the device and things in this circuit. In Circuit first we use the MCCB breaker. (Module Case Circuit Breaker)
We used a three pole MCCB circuit breaker in the diagram. This circuit breaker will control the all substances use in the circuit and we can switch on/off the electric power supply by using the three pole circuit breaker. In the diagram I did not control the neutral wire. However if you want to control the neutral (N) black wire then you must use the 4 pole circuit breaker.

The next thing which used in the circuit is the magnetic contactor. Basically a contactor is a type of relay which we can use for different works. However if you want to learn more about the magnetic contactor basic explanation then the below guide is for you.

The push button switches which used in the circuit is NC and NO switches. The normally open contacts switch will be use for starting the motor. And normally close contacts push button switch will be used for switch off the motor or load.


The next device which use in the below 3 phase submersible pump wiring diagram is a thermal overload relay. Which we use to protect or switch off the motor or load during over current flow. This device is available in different shapes and different values according load. In thermal overload protector we have move able ampere adjustable. From which we can setup the ampere or load level.

In the above diagram I showed the L1 L2 L3 and N wire incoming supply with red, yellow, blue and black. In which the red, yellow and blue for 3 phases and black color wire for neutral.


The incoming supply goes to MCCB circuit breaker. I shown the three poles MCCB breaker which is for controlling the three phase power supply and you can switch ON/OFF by using the circuit breaker. Then neutral wire is direct and if you want to control the neutral wire then uses the 4 pole circuit breaker.

After condactor, they connection done between the contactor load main contacts and thermal overload relay main input terminals.
Phase wire connections comes from the MCCB output terminals and connected to NC push button switch and then from the normally close switch, this connection goes to the magnetic auxiliary normally open contacts. And to the normally open switch. From the normally open switch wire will gees to the other side of normally open auxiliary contact and to the stater coil.
The neutral wire connected to the normally close contact of thermal overload relay. And form the other side of thermal overload relay normally close contact wire goes to the other terminal of magnetic contactor coil.
In last does the connection of 3 phase motor or three phase submersible pump to the thermal overload relay main terminals.
Also do the earth wire connection to panel box and to the motor.

Electrical Manual Changeover Switch Wiring Diagram For Portable Generator


Manual changeover switch are mostly use in 2 types , in which one have the move able knob and 2nd one the handle changeover switch. This post i will shown the complete method of manual or handle change over switch , the knob type manual changeover switch wiring same like handle change over switch and it's just like a voltmeter sector switch.


Last day i am doing some new electrical instillation, and i saw the handle type manual changeover switch, and get a photo for you, which help you in understanding the connection. Note this post is only about handle type manual changeover switch wiring diagram , however the knob type changeover connection is also same.

There are 3 types of changeover switches which we use for generator and main supply or we can also use the changeover switches for two supplies. 

⇒ Type one : which we use for single phase supply, and for single phase generator
⇒ Type two : which we use for 3 phase power supply and generator
⇒ Type three : which we use for 3 phase 4 wire system and generator

In this post i am explaining the type one , Below i shown the single phase manual changeover switch with image and connection & manual changeover switch wiring diagram with complete connection of  main supply and generator supply and out going supply to the load.

In the above manual changeover switch wiring diagram , i shown the incoming supply from the energy meter, incoming supply form the portable generator , and out going supply to load or house load.

In the diagram i shown handle type manual changeover switch. in which i done all the connection. On thing more always do earthing connection to the changeover body , if you have the earth wire. This connection can also work with out the earth or ground connection, But in Electrical Works the most important thing is safety so always do ground connection.
In the above diagram the black color denote the neutral wire , red color denote the phase wire (Line / Hot wire) and Green color denote the earth / ground wire.

Today i am wiring about the rcd wiring installation in single phase distribution board. as you know that we always focus on safety and protection in electrical works. And that's because of that electrical works and electrical wiring is more than dangerous from other works. Always safety first in every work.
RCD are available in many types but fixed RCD (residual current device) are number one device to make a great protection in electrical single phase wiring installation.

RCD Wiring Installation In Single Phase Distribution Board


The wiring installation of rcd is very simple in main distribution board, you need to connect the fixed RCD after the main two pole circuit breaker. Here is the rcd wiring diagram in which i install the main distribution board.

In the above distribution diagram i shown the wiring installation of Double pole MCB circuit breaker , rcd circuit breaker, single pole mcb breakers, voltmeter, light indicator. The installation of rcd is too simple in single phase wiring main board.
You need to connect the rcd or do connection of residual current device after the double pole mcb main circuit breaker as i shown in the above diagram.
However lets explain the complete installation of complete main DB board. you need to fallow these steps.

  • First you need to get supply from the main double pole circuit breaker and connect to the rcd fixed rcd breaker as i shown in the above rcd wiring diagram.
  • Now get Hot wire (phase) from the rcd breaker and connect to all one pole mcb breakers and neutral to neutral bus bar as i shown in the above rcd diagram.
  • For wiring of voltmeter and indicator you need to connect the phase supply from the breaker and neutral wire to neutral connection point.
  • The earth connection is connected in the bus bar , or earth connection point.
  • In last you need to get supply from the neutral point and earth point and from circuit breaker for different loads.
In the above rcd wiring installation diagram i shown the incoming supply (N and L). The rcd wiring is too simple and easy connection, however here some other tutorials which help you more to understand it easily.
